American Bully FAQ & The GalaxyLine Story

The American Bully: A Modern American Companion

The American Bully is one of the youngest breeds in the bully world, and one of the most recognizable. It was developed in the United States in the 1990s, building on American Pit Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier lines with bulldog-type breeds such as the American Bulldog, English Bulldog and Olde English Bulldogge. The goal was a dog with heavy bone, a wide front, a blocky head and serious muscle, paired with a calm, people-loving temperament.

The American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC) recognized the breed in 2004, and the United Kennel Club (UKC) followed on July 15, 2013. The ABKC recognizes four varieties: Pocket, Standard, Classic and XL. The heavier Extreme type was an ABKC class in the breed's early years and remains a popular style today. Whatever the size, the American Bully is a companion first: confident, gentle and devoted to its family, with what the ABKC calls a fierce, powerful appearance and a gentle demeanor.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pocket American Bully?

A pocket American Bully has the same heavy-boned, muscular build as a standard American Bully, just shorter. Under the ABKC standard, pocket males are 14 to under 17 inches at the withers and pocket females are 13 to under 16 inches.

What is an extreme American Bully?

An extreme American Bully is a heavier, more exaggerated version of the pocket or standard bully, with more head, more bone and more overall mass, while still moving soundly. It is not the same as an overweight dog. Extreme was an official ABKC class in the breed's early years and was discontinued around 2014. Today the ABKC's varieties are Pocket, Standard, Classic and XL, and extreme bullies have been featured in the ABKC Nationals Alternative Variety Showcase.

What is a micro bully?

“Micro” is a breeder term, not an ABKC American Bully variety. It usually describes bullies bred even shorter than the pocket height range. GalaxyLine Bullies does not market micro bullies; we breed pocket and extreme American Bullies within recognized standards.

What is an exotic bully?

“Exotic bully” describes a more exaggerated, bulldog-influenced style: very short, very wide and heavily wrinkled. Some registries treat it as its own breed, and it is not one of the ABKC American Bully varieties. Our dogs are ABKC-registered pocket and extreme American Bullies, bred for heavy bone and sound movement.

Pocket, XL or extreme: which bully is right for me?

Pocket bullies are the most compact, XL bullies are the tallest ABKC variety, and extreme bullies carry the most mass and head for their size. If you want a big-boned bully that is still easy to live with, a pocket or extreme American Bully is a great fit. Call or text (239) 486-9899 and we’ll help you choose.

How big do American Bullies get?

Size depends on the variety. Under the ABKC standard, Standard males are 17 to 20 inches at the withers (females 16 to 19 inches), Pocket bullies are shorter, Classic bullies share the Standard height with a lighter frame, and XL males are over 20 up to 23 inches (females over 19 up to 22 inches). GalaxyLine focuses on pocket and extreme bullies.

Are American Bullies good with kids?

Yes. The breed was developed as a companion. The ABKC describes the American Bully as confident, gentle and eager to bond with family, and calls aggression toward people highly undesirable. As with any dog, supervise young children and invest in early socialization and training.

How much does a GalaxyLine Bullies puppy cost?
